Columbia Engineering Boot Camps

I'm extremely happy that I took the full-stack coding bootcamp at Columbia University. The program was intense and packed with activities, homework, and projects, but it feels like a well-spent couple of months. After the grind is over, I feel accomplished and much more confident with modern technologies. I just graduated recently, but I will update this review in the future once I find a job. In addition, the teaching staff was great, helpful, and understanding. I met a lot of wonderful people in this program and I hope to stay in touch with them.

Great course! I couldn't have asked for better teachers in Adam and Julia. The TAs were top-notch and made themselves available to answer questions outside of class at any time. Along with weekly homework assignments, we completed 3 group projects over the course of the bootcamp, which gives you the opportunity to have some serious finished products to be proud of. This course is ideal for someone who comes from a finance background and wants to learn some really useful data analytics skills, with a particular focus on Python, along with an introduction to SQL. The weeks we spent on machine-learning were especially interesting to me and incredibly useful in a wide variety of fields. The section on blockchain provides a great overview of this emerging technology as well. About halfway through the course, we entered nationwide lockdowns due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the administrators and professors did an excellent job transitioning seamlessly to a virtual format. I genuinely believe that it had little effect on the quality of the bootcamp. I highly recommend this course and instructors. 

I came from the army, so the bootcamp was life changing for me. Everyone involved in the bootcamp was the best from the start until the end. The support, the Student Success Managers, the Instructor, TAs, the whole environment is amazing for someone who never did any coding before. The experience was unbelievable! I changed my job for this and I worked hard every night, and it really is a life changing course. I never thought that it would be this good when I started. I really appreciate the staff. I worked with the TA, Justin, and he always put in extra hours to help me learn. It's amazing. I also have to thank David Sison for helping me during the bootcamp. Any time I had questions, you answered them. Any request that I had, you helped me. This is something that I am really thankful for. This bootcamp is not like courses or programs in other places, so I just want to say thank you!

As I stand at the end of this six month program, I have to say, this program is well planned, flawlessly executed and tightly packed. Even a pandemic could not deter us from a well-marked course. The program gave me a plan made by experts, executed by the brightest minds and supported by a team of mentors and online tutors. When I needed help I found it. 
Each unit is planned with activities that grow in complexity. With each activity we get a good sense of the scope of the new topic and it’s many key features. The more a student practices and prepares the more they stand to gain from the program. The assignments are creative, challenging but also familiar from activities in class. The teaching team is not only engaging with the curriculum they point out the data science in the real world in real-time. They teach you how to learn. 
In my case, we started the program in February, 2020. A small group of students, some with Mac’s some with PC’s, but each with a curious eye.  Within a few weeks we could no longer meet at the campus. The program transitioned to remote learning without missing a beat. Each student got the attention and help they needed to overcome the new obstacles and to work in the new environment. There was constant dialogue that alerted us to the upcoming lesson and upgrades.  
In just over a month I was aware of the datasets that could be studied and analysed. In fact I chose to study the Covid Crisis in South Korea. I was looking at the data files that the evening news was composed of. The group projects enlighten you to different ways of approaching and solving problems. They also create a positive work environment.  Some of my best teachers were my classmates for I have often improved in their company. This program inspired me to be present, attentive and research elegant algorithms and modules. I am now confident of my capabilities. I may not have all the answers but the ones I do not have I know how to  find them. 

I am new to New York. I was looking for a job in my profession for almost one year, but it turned out to be complicated. For some, I was over-qualified; for some, I could not meet the requirements. I realized I needed more knowledge, more networking, and professional help. I did not think much about the Columbia boot camp; I made the decision soon after.

The teaching process turned out to be very interesting in many ways. A team staffed with the best instructors who are always ready to support you and do their best. A personal career coach who is prepared to train you from start to finish. From preparing a resume to preparing for an interview.

Time is short, so you always have to work on yourself, looking for as much as possible to get the desired result. And after a few weeks, you realize that you can create a website the way you want it, and it is no longer an unattainable result for you. You see the result every day, and it surprises you, in such a short time, you already own a lot. At one point, you become unfamiliar with the black box, very tangible and simple.

 If you love puzzles, are looking for a challenge, and are enjoying the result, then this course is for you. I'm proud of myself for being able to do this.

Before signing up for the course, I have visited many boot camps and workshops in the NYC Greater Area. By far, this was the best one. To start with, many people who are interested in learning any Computer Science don't even know where to start and what they want to do (Front-end, Back-end, Data-Analysis, Data-Science, etc.). This program exposes you to all these paths; you'll be learning everything from VBA Scripting to Data Bases to Machine Learning. The instructors and TAs are also great and helpful.

 

Also, it's a part-time program that lasts for six months (most of the Bootcamps are intensive 3-month programs) that are 9-6. With this Bootcamp, you don't have to sacrifice your job

However, I would highly encourage all future students to be prepared to invest many hours for them to succeed. This course covers almost, and you do need to invest much time on your own to learn more about each topic.

 

Lastly, they offer job assistance and they dedicate a careet coach that works with each student separtely and guide you through the process of finding a job in the field.

 I had a great seven-month web development coding experience, before starting the program I had basic knowledge of designing the front-end. Now after completing the program, I gained new skills and knowledge in developing the back-end of a site. I had an awesome instructor who came in the second half of the program and taught us a lot which made me engage in learning more in class than before. By the end of the program, I was able to develop a site for tourists who visit New York City using react, mongoose, MongoDB, Ajax, Node.js, along with the essential programming languages. When It came time to present, I received mostly positive reaction from the class, the instructor and even to the visitors on demo day. After completing the program, receiving my certificate and presenting I feel ready and confident to start working as a developer and take on more challenging projects.

I started this Boot Camp with no experience of HTML, CSS or any other coding language. From the beginning the instructors were helpful in making sure you were up to speed with the class and the material being teached. They all dominated the material courses really well and made sure you'd understand the process to figure out the best solutions and which direction to take to make sure your code works. And if it didn't, they also take time to explain to you where you got it wrong. 

The curriculum is very well designed, the pace I consider it to be fast, however, given that every subject is build upon the previews one, its great to see how each coding language informs the next one, and it also helps you figure out what makes an actual website or application work, and all the elements that are involved.

By the end of it, the amount of information, resources and skills that we learned, were really impressive, and given all the course material and the help by the instructors, I feel that I learned somethng that would've take me a lot more time to understand in just 6 months. The span of the course subjects really reflects that.

Its great coding bootcamp and I'm glad I took the chance to learn coding here.

 

This course has been a total eye opener for me!

I have learned more here than I ever could have learned on my own. The way that the instructors care about your education is phenomenal. They take the time to make sure to answer any uncertainties that you may have and do not hesitate to reach out and make sure that you are comfortable with the material.  It is a boot camp, so be ready to take on new information and projects with an allotted amount of time. The experience has been one that I am happy to be a part of and completely recommend the program for anyone who is interested in embarking on a new journey into Web Development.
